In 2004 the painted Etruscan tombs of Tarquinia were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site because “exceptional source of knowledge of life, customs and the religious feeling of the Etruscans. They represent the extraordinary testimony of ancient painting preserved as part of the culture that flourished in historical times around the Mediterranean”.
